TRAINING

Theatre

Jasmine's interest for Theatre mainly began at Secondary School although she had partaken in some local productions prior with Bruce James Productions; such as Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid and The Wizard of Oz.

Jasmine then studied Drama and Theatre Studies at both GCSE and A Level where she undertook many roles, such as Elizabeth (The Crucible), Baroness Elsa Schraeder (The Sound of Music) and Lady Capulet (Romeo and Juliet). This led to her performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe twice: Romeo and Juliet in 2012 and Puss in Boots/Company of Wolves in 2013.

She decided to pursue this subject and has recently completed her BA(Hons) degree in Theatre at Falmouth University. The course was very contemporary and allowed Jasmine to devise work using and including her dance and choreographic skills.

Dance

Jasmine has been involved in Dance since the age of two and a half when she started Ballet lessons. Over the next few years, this progressed to Modern and Tap lessons. Now, as it stands, these are the highest qualifications Jasmine has in Dance:

  • Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Grade 6 Ballet - Distinction

  • Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD) Grade 6 Modern - Distinction

  • Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD) Intermediate Tap - Distinction

  • Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD) Silver Jazz Award - Distinction

Jasmine also competed in local Eisteddfods from the age of four; competing in many different categories including Song and Dance, Lyrical and Own Choreographic. Each competition enabled you to compete as a soloist or as part of a duet, trio or group. Although mainly a soloist, Jasmine did compete in a handful of duets and groups. This variety encourages the dancer to perform in different formations and provides basis for collaboration.

In her teenage years, Jasmine discovered Contemporary Dance. Having taken lessons prior to University, it was something she was keen to continue during her studies. Jasmine was lucky enough to train under Kuldip Singh-Barmi (Candoco Dance Company) in her final year at Falmouth University. She continues to explore Contemporary Dance in her solo work, performance and choreography, and believes it's a fantastic Dance medium for conveying narrative and emotion.

Choreography

Although Jasmine does not have any official qualifications in this skill, she has developed it through her Dance training. From choreographing solos for herself and others for local Eisteddfods or shows, she has also tackled some larger scale productions of musicals: The Sound of Music, Oliver!, 13! and Grease! the Musical

Jasmine's biggest success in this field was having the pleasure of choreographing for Big Shoes Theatre's (formally known as Working Girls) adaptation of Romeo and Juliet which was performed as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2012. Most recently, Jasmine has been showcasing her choreographic skills through her YouTube channel: #shesadanceryouknow.

Jasmine's drive to succeed in the choreographic field has only increased and she now manages a Facebook page, specifically for Choreography. This allows her to showcase her upcoming and current work as well as providing a platform for people to enquire about her services.
